Launch of Dark and Lovely Au Naturale in Kenya
A few weeks ago, I attended the launch of Dark and Lovely Au Naturale range of products in Karen. For years I have watched my fellow hair bloggers in the US rave about the variety of Au Naturale collections but those products were not available in our Kenyan market. Dark and Lovely have been making moves in the natural hair business since 2013 when they created a line for natural hair called Au Naturale. I first inquired about Au Naturale after seeing naturalistas in South Africa using the products and I am so happy that they were planning to launch the collection in Kenya – better late than never!
Growing up, Dark and Lovely is a brand that all the women in our family used – I know this brand is also not a stranger to you guys. Their relaxers came through for me during my long gone relaxed hair days. I’m excited about the Au Naturale collection because Dark and Lovely is a brand I already recognized.
What caught my eye about the Au Naturale collection is that the products are specifically formulated for us Kenyan naturals – how exciting is that? Dark and Lovely, a subsidiary of Loreal who have an office and a factory here in Kenya have a research and Innovation team who took their time to conduct a research on African hair. They realized that African hair was the driest and has the lowest hair elasticity which easily causes it to break off . This information led them to formulate different products for the African market that suits our hair needs, products that will help our hair retain moisture and also keep a hairstyle for long.
The collection comprises of 4 products including;
1. Moisture Replenishing Shampoo
2. Knot out Conditioner
3. Afro Moisturizing Butter
4. Plaiting Pudding Cream
The products feature Mango oil, bamboo milk, Guarana root and honey which helps our hair keep it’s moisture levels up. The products have no mineral oils, no parabens and no petroleum which is a huge plus for natural hair products. The Dark and Lovely Au Naturale collection is now available in Kenya at Super Cosmetics, Carrefour, Tuskys and Jumia Kenya. The shampoo and knot-out conditioner retail for Ksh 480. The plaiting pudding retails for Ksh 750 and the butter is Ksh 850. Everything is below Ksh 1000 making them quite affordable.
I have had the opportunity to try the products thanks to Dark and Lovely Kenya and I cannot wait to share my full review and create different hairstyles using these products so stay tuned! Are you excited to try out these products? What are your thoughts? Have you tried them before?
